Windows Slow Down Causes
Windows Protection
if your computer is experiencing slowdowns, it’s possible that Windows System Protection background tasks are contributing to the issue, as they can consume system resources like CPU and Disk access while creating restore points, potentially impacting your computer’s overall performance, especially if the system is set to create restore points too frequently.
Why System Protection might slow down your computer:
Frequent restore point creation:
If your system is set to create restore points too often, the background process constantly scans for changes and creates new restore points, which can put strain on the hard drive and CPU.
Large system drive:
If your primary hard drive is full or nearly full, creating restore points can take longer and further impact performance.
What you can do to fix it:
- Adjust System Protection settings:
Reduce restore point frequency: Open System Properties, go to System Protection, and change the settings to create restore points less frequently. - Limit disk space usage: Set a maximum disk space limit for system restore points to prevent it from taking up too much space on your drive.
- Exclude specific drives: If you have a large data drive, exclude it from system protection to reduce the amount of data that needs to be backed up.
- Check for malware: Run a virus scan to ensure no malware is causing performance issues.
- Or turn off System protection altogether
